I guess this could also be called "Rainy Night in Soho". Where's the dog you ask? It's coming, I thought I might get to adding the dog and it's owner, but spent the day working on the background.

For the first time this year I pretty much just painted all day at Short Term Gallery. Very few visitors and I didn't leave at lunch time. It helps that I'm listening to such a good book, "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. If you like great writing and vampires, then this is a book for you.

We head to Portland for Ceramic Showcase this weekend and I'll be in back painting like I always do. If I have internet access I'll keep posting.

"Pip in Wait"

SOLD

Here's a sketch I created today, of my friend's dog Pip. I stayed at their house for the evening while traveling to the state swimming championships. The bed I slept on with Pip and Daisy that night, was destroyed by one of the dogs the next day after I left. Pip is the main suspect.

One of the items Corrine will be selling at Ceramic Showcase next weekend in Portland will be little trailer and VW pins. This drawing is the card they will be sold on.

It's based on her studio, our Airstream and Bettini's in the window.

Ideas???

"Ideas for Staycation"
ink on paper
NFS

I think that the break I took from painting had only one advantage. I've gotten a little better at doing graphic design. The big problem I see, is that I'm having a hard time choosing what to do.

For the past 7 years I've pretty much being painting and drawing what I wanted, and that description includes commissioned works. When I started something it was always a painting I could see in my mind, even when working with a client. Since I spent the past four months working solely for someone else, not always doing what I wanted to. Oh boo hoo for me right?

Now I'm having a hard time deciding what I want to do. What style, modern or traditional? What dogs, mine or others in my collection of photographs? What sizes, big or small?

I better decide soon, because I have a show that opens on July 2nd.

I'm working on ideas for my next show in July at Benjamin Benjamin in Hood River. The theme/title of the show is "Staycation" which is the type of traveling I'll be doing most of this year. No trips to California for art shows this year.

Next year seems that it might be on the schedule again, because this weekend we'll start our restoration of "Puffy" the Flying Cloud Airstream. Yeah.

Stay tuned for more sketches.

It's taken much longer than anticipated to finish this painting of Winslow. I sat at the Short Term Gallery just listening to "Wait, wait, don't tell me" deciding what else could be done, if anything. I chose to add a little more purple to the background and edges, but nothing more to Winslow. I sat there staring at him and off into nothing, before adding the signature.

This is the second painting I've finished in 2010, and can't believe it took so long. The next one I hope comes more quickly and turns out just as well as this one.

I've also finished painting all the mugs Corrine has made for Ceramic Showcase which is April 30th thru May 2nd. When they come out of the kiln I'll post some, even though they don't contain many dogs. Only one design has a dog in it.
