Self Portrait complete...

"Self-Portrait Dream Dots"

12"x6" acrylic on canvas
$300 unframed plus $5 for shipping in the US
Email:dogbri@q.com to purchase

I spent much of my day working on little details of the sheets, and my nose. I have to say I love painting dogs, myself or any person for that matter not so much.

That said, I'm also very glad to have created another self-portairt and this time with Bettini. Even though she doesn't like to have her picture taken, she loves to sleep with us. Which is what I need to go do.

Me Dot?

"Self-Portrait Dream Dots"
(work in progress)
12"x6" acrylic on canvas

$300 unframed plus $5 for shipping in the US
Email:dogbri@q.com to purchase

I started this as my final piece for the "Effects of a Market Economy" show that will open Friday at the Short Term Gallery, here in Baker City, OR. I realize it's very similar to "Tribute to a Master"  which I did awhile back, but with the twist of the dots.

It's been a fun painting to create, and I really like the composition I have using this size of canvas. The black background came from my need to gesso over a discoloration on the canvas. The black also lead me to choose the photo of myself with Bettini. Unlike me she's ready to spring out of bed. Mainly, she has that look, because she hates having her picture taken.

Daisy Spots final

"Daisy Spots"

6"x6" acrylic on canvas
$150 unframed plus $5 for shipping in the US
Email:dogbri@q.com to purchase

I didn't have much to change or add that's visible here. I had to put the finishing touches on Daisy's paws which are around the corner of the canvas, and a few bits of color here and there.

I love the way this turned out, and can't wait to start the next one. It's only a week till the show opens at Short Term Gallery, but I have to have the paintings done by Wed. I'll blog more about it over the next few days.

I was right, that I was wrong about Daisy's name. It's Daisy and not Lily, like I had thought.

I spent much of today working on her, but in the end still need some more time to finish the piece and be satisfied with my creative efforts. Looking at her in the night time light of my studio, I think there are some areas that could be softened. Maybe come daylight I'll change my mind, but I doubt that.

Tomorrow will tell.

More Cards...

"Blank Cards"

7"x5.25" ink on water color paper
$8 plus $1 for shipping in the US
Email:dogbri@q.com to purchase

I spent today at the gallery making cards again. Thanks to all the visitors it was in fits and starts. Plus, when I went to paint I realized I had forgotten to bring my palette. Couldn't do much painting without paint.

I really enjoy making these things, plus I sold 3 today. Who doesn't like that?

I decided to make a birthday card for our friend Bruce the other day, because we didn't have time to get a store bought card before the mornings surprise breakfast party. The card was a big hit.

Our friend Kelsey asked if I'd make more so she could buy them. I like all artists love to make money, so I figured I'd sit down today and see how many I could pump out. Over the day with I made a few and I think I'll continue to make more.

I said earlier that I like money, but my motivation has it's limits. Don't think you can get me to do commissions this way, because you can't. I'll happily make cards of dogs I like, but I won't take orders for this style. You know us artists can be a pain to deal with. I'll post more examples of the cards soon.

Lily Spot in progress 02...

"Lily Spot"

$150 unframed plus $5 for shipping in the US
Email:dogbri@q.com to purchase

I spent most of the day traveling part of the Blue Mountain Heritage Trail. It was really fun to see the route, and the possibilities.

When we got home Corrine and I were both crazy hunger and had a great lunch at Deliciouso's, not sure of the spelling. It's a new Mexican restaurant here in Baker on Broadway.

Then once we got home and I could muster the creative energy I was able to get what you see here accomplished. Maybe more tomorrow.

p.s. Sorry if any of you were looking for a pink dog painting. The pink was just the base color.

Lily Spot in progress

I started this piece on Friday, and had hopes of working on it this weekend, but with the "Bring Your Own Stopwatch" Triathlon we did today, it just didn't happen.

You may see me change the name of this painting, because it's my friends Laura and Steve's dog, and I think her name is Lily, but I could be wrong.

This is the first in the dot series that I  created the dots freehand. I had forgotten to bring the circle templet with me to the gallery and so in-order to get the painting started I had no other choice. Not bad, but I like the crutch of the templet.

I Spot Jake

"I Spot Jake"

7"x5" acrylic on canvas
$150 unframed plus $5 for shipping in the US
SOLD

I finished this up in the morning at Short Term Gallery, just before lunch. So when I came home I planned to bring back with me some reference photos for a new painting. Well, that didn't happen. I forgot to add them to my purse.

Instead, I went through my not so vast archives of dog photos. You'd think I'd have more, which I do, just not in the laptop. And so, tomorrow you'll see a new work in progress.

I spent today at the Short Term Gallery, and was able to accomplish a nice amount of painting. Not that the gallery wasn't busy, but whenever it was slow, all I did was paint.

I'm just about finished painting Jake and love where the painting is going. His fur and face have really come to life and I just love his sweet brown eyes.
