Screen printing

"Hound of Baker"
hand pulled silk screen on t-shirt

So tonight Corrine and I put the "Hound of Baker" on a couple of t-shirts and her sweatshirt. I have to thank our friend Sarah Wynn for turning us on to screen printing. She's also one of our favorite artists.

If the shirts go over well when we wear them at the Elkhorn this weekend, I'll be sure to let you know when we start to make them available for sale.

Reflecting on Thinking...

"Thinking of NYC"
8"x10" acrylic on canvas

It was a busy day at the Short Term Gallery, some because of customers and some because I spent two hours talking philosophy with tom.

I did manage to get some work done though. It might be the last of what I get to this week with the Elkhorn Classic happening this weekend. I'm not racing this year, but I'm still involved with volunteering, and the Finish Fest on Sunday. It's going to be great.

The mugs are in the kiln as we speak so you'll get to see those at least, even if I don't get anymore done on "Thinking..." till next week.

Back to Thinking..

I spent today painting at Short Term Gallery, after a fun day in Boise yesterday. We got in some mountain biking and we're able to catch part of the Boise 70.3 Ironman.

Every time I go to a race like that I wish I was doing it. It doesn't even matter what the weather is like. In fact, the first Ironman race I watched in person was the 2003 Ironman Lake Placid, and it rained all day. Two days later I was signed up and my life hasn't been the same since.

Yesterday was also cool because we were right at the barriers of the finish line and got the high five women's winner Julie Dibbens and 2nd place Linsey Corbin.

Tomorrow, I'll be back at Short Term possibly finishing up this painting. Stop in to see me.

mug shots...

"Mugs"

Here's a few of the mugs we just created. Today, I'll be adding color to all of them. Some were hand carved and others screen printed.

More pics when they come out of the kiln.

The Hound of Baker

"The Hound of Baker"

Those of you who are familiar with Belgium cycling, where the inspiration came from is clear. You might even get the joke of the title.

For those who don't, it's based on the Lion of
Flanders. At just about every cycling event in Europe, you will see this flag flying. I just love the image of the Lion, and had to make a dog version.

Corrine and I will be making screen-printed mugs of this image and eventually t-shirts. I'll post them when they're done.

Progress of thought...

This is progress from several days ago. We had artist friends Chris and Sweet Pea Cole in town on Friday for an opening at Short Term Gallery, and I've been working on the Airstream or out training since then.

Tomorrow, I'll be working in Corrine's studio creating cycling artwork for mugs she's thrown, for the up coming Elkhorn Classic. Should be lots of fun because we're trying something new.

Maybe you'll even see some of it here.

Drawing 1st...

Here's the sketch that started it all. I very rarely do sketches before I start a painting, but for this one because it's a composite of two pictures, I thought it would be a good idea.

I'm about to start working on the painting again right now. It's the first sunny day that we've had here in Baker, so what better way to spend it, than indoors painting. Well, I did cut the grass a little bit ago.

Thoughts out the window...

Today, I made more progress on the building out the window. I'm enjoying the process of the windows and the grid it makes. I don't think I've got the proportions 100% accurate compared to reality, but it still plays very real to me. It's a painting not a photograph, right?

The background is just that, background and my main concern for accuracy is the dog, Zephyr, of course.

I also spent part of today taking apart our Airstream. It's a bigger project than we though, but it's going to be so worth it. I can't wait to start painting pictures of the dogs in it.

Here's the new progress I was able to make today on this painting. I'm happy with the way the building is turning out.

More tomorrow I hope.
