"Longing" the art show

The show opens on Friday May 1st and that's all I've been working on the past few days since returning from Portland. I just finished framing the 10 coffee hounds I selected to be part of the show.

I'm really looking forward to seeing it up and hope that if any of you are in the area on Friday or during the month of May you'll stop by Earth & Vine to see it.

The framed pieces look great if I do say so myself.

Little Dog Tate-final

"Little Dog Tate"

12x12 acrylic on canvas
SOLD

During Ceramic Showcase at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland this weekend, I worked behind the scenes painting and Corrine was on the floor selling pottery. And sell she did. We're coming home with boxes filled with bubble wrap and not much else.

I finished up this painting of Tate yesterday and started a new one today. If our drive home doesn't take much more than it's usual 6 hours I might finish and get that one posted tomorrow. I'm not making any promises. It will be the last piece I finish for the "Longing" show that opens at Earth and Vine on May 1st. If you're going to be in Baker City please stop in to see the show.

Afternoon Coffee

Our little dog likes to come hang out where ever the sun is shining, so she can bask in it. One afternoon this past winter she had to lay against my studio wall because it wasn't cast onto the floor. She fell asleep sitting up.

Once the sun shifted she left the studio to lay in front of the heat vent instead.

So Bettini hates to have her picture taken, as if you couldn't tell from the expression on her face. I'm always trying to capture the reflection she makes when drinking from the water bowl, but I'm to slow or annoying.

This weekend I'm in Portland, OR and plan to get a few posting done while I'm here. If you're in the area I recommend you stop by the convention center to check out Ceramic Showcase. My wife Corrine Vegter will have her work for sale in the group booth. If you like ceramics it's the biggest all clay show in the country.

p.s. I'm sorry I don't have a scanner with me so the images aren't as good on-line as they are in real life. Also for those of you wondering how the swim meet went, I took home three 3rd places. Yeah.

Tate's wait is almost over

"Little Dog Tate"

12x12 acrylic on canvas
SOLD

I didn't post anything yesterday even though I was up till midnight painting. Sorry. So here's the progress. I have just a little left to do of little dog Tate and his peaceful vigil. I'm really please with the colors and form in this.

I rarely choose references that have some many different converging perspectives. I would hate to do architectural landscape painting. I do however love to look at them and we even own some. That said there are a few NYC landscapes I keep thinking about doing. Of course they'll have a dog in them somewhere.

Looking for a Good Cup of Coffee

Before heading up to the mountain I took the time to create a new coffee hound. Corrine's spending the morning in the studio glazing. The kiln load came out great. Check in on Dusty Dog Studio in a few days to see the results.

This is one of Zephyr's favorite spots in our living room. When he isn't laying under the coffee table cleaning his face on the rug, he can be found keeping watch over the neighborhood.

Happy Chocolate Bunny and Egg Day. MMmm I'm thinking mocha.

Tate continues to wait...

"Waiting To Go Out"
(in progress)

12x12 acrylic on canvas
$400 plus $6 for shipping in the US
Email:dogbri@q.com to purchase

I spent much of the afternoon mountain biking with Corrine and then spent almost 45 minutes washing our bikes off. Ah good fun.

I didn't paint quite as much as I would have liked, but that's the way it goes sometimes. I have lots of foliage to paint and if I don't spend the whole day tomorrow skate skiing, I should create a rich background.

Little Dog Tate appears

"Little Dog Tate"

12x12 acrylic on canvas
SOLD

I spent much of the day painting and I'm super happy with the results. Tate the dog here has a regal quality to the way he sits waiting. It seems as if he'd sit there waiting for the okay, even if the most tempting of cats were to pass by. My dogs could never be that patient, especially the jack russell.

I was hoping to get some time on the other canvas I prepped yesterday, but I spent the morning helping to set up my wife's website. Dustydogstudio.com Check it out when you get a chance. More updates will be coming soon to it as well.

Little Dog Tate

"Little Dog Tate"

12x12 acrylic on canvas
SOLD

This is the beginning of a painting based on the photo taped to my easel you see in the picture. The dogs name is Tate, as in Little Man Tate from the Jodi Foster movie.

His owner works at the Ruddy Duck in Hood River and he's a great little greeter.

Can't wait to work on it tomorrow. I also prepped another canvas today that will be a treat to work on. It's one of my more contemporary pieces.

Waiting Outside the Diner- final

"Waiting Outside the Diner"

12x12 acrylic on canvas
$400 plus $6 for shipping in the US
Email:dogbri@q.com to purchase

After much wasted time on-line today, I finally got down to painting. Here's the results.

The picture I used as a reference was taken in July '08 when gas prices were high, and were closer to what the rest of the world pays to drive. Who knows maybe this painting will seem like the prices are low by this summer.

The Wait is almost over...

"Waiting Outside the Diner"
(in progress)

12x12 acrylic on canvas
$400 plus $6 for shipping in the US
Email:dogbri@q.com to purchase

The wait is almost over. I spent most of today monkeying around with facebook. So if you'd like to be my facebook friend just look me up. Man a person sure can waste a lot of time on that site.

I did get a great swim in earlier today. Plus at the NW Zone Championships I took away 4 1st place ribbons in my age group. At the state meet, I might not be so luck. Other guys in my age group might show up.

Tomorrow I should finish this one up and our little wire haired pointer friend will be waiting no longer.

CBGB's Bettini-final

"CBGB's Bettini"

18x24 acrylic on canvas
SOLD

So after almost a year I'm finished. Okay it wasn't a year worth of painting, but I started this painting sometime in 2008, or was it 2007, and then the canvas just sat in my studio. If it wasn't for NY Spaces wanting to use it in their up coming issue who knows how much longer it would have collected dust.

I sure love the way it turned out and will miss seeing it in my studio now that it's going to it's new home.

If you're looking for a history of CBGB take a look at this link. http://www.cbgb.com/history1.htm
